Niambi Cacchioli was born in Georgia and raised in Kentucky where no matter how much money you had, everyone had a garden or vegetable plot. So, she grew up with the notion that Black folk were Green folk. It wasn’t until her academic travels with the Africa Centre and UNESCO that she discovered otherwise.
During her travels, she struggled to find products that suited her combination skin. She would visit local apothecaries and load her shopping cart up with all kinds of butters, oils, plant waters, and clays, and experiment with the simple beauty recipes that her Nana taught her. While whipping up her own beauty products, She began to think of skincare as a Diaspora Folk Beauty Culture where African-derived beauty wisdom is adapted with local ingredients. Infusing these two principles, Pholk Beauty was born.
As an academic turned beauty activist, Niambi infuses Pholk with her love and knowledge of the African Diaspora’s healing and herbalist traditions. Her calling is to welcome women of color into the natural skincare space by thinking about both lifestyle and skin needs and crafting a brand narrative that celebrates women of color as innovators of culture.
